Protected no-claims discount normally protects the policyholder's position on the insurer's no-claims-discount scale after a permitted number of claims. It does not normally guarantee that the underlying renewal premium will stay the same.
How insurers commonly treat this
- The number of claims allowed before protection is lost is defined by the insurer.
- The base premium can still increase after a claim or because of wider pricing changes.
- Protection and the no-claims discount itself are separate from the insurer's overall premium calculation.
